Twelve years ago, I left Snowflake, Michigan, for California, and I never looked back. I graduated from UCLA, got myself a nice corporate job, and moved my family to the warmer climate.
But now, I’m back. It was supposed to be a short trip, not even overnight, but when the blizzard of the century rolls in earlier than anticipated, flights are canceled. What’s worse, all the hotels are booked with Christmas right around the corner.
Just when I’m convinced I’ll have to sleep in the airport for days, my saving grace comes in the most unexpected form: My old high school sweetheart, looking like an absolute snack. He never left Snowflake, it turns out, and invites me to his house to wait out the blizzard.
Being around him is so easy, it’s like we were never apart. But the longer I stay with him, the hotter our chemistry becomes, until it hits a boiling point and I start thinking crazy thoughts.
Like, maybe moving back to this icicle of a town wouldn’t be such a bad idea.
