Audiobook Narration Styles Information

Solo Narration: One performer is cast to narrate your entire audiobook, voicing every character within

Dual Narration: Two or more performers of any gender are cast. Each performer narrates their main character’s POV chapters and every other character within those chapters, even the other main character(s).

Duet Narration: Two performers of any gender are cast. Each performer narrates their main character’s POV chapters, but all other characters are split between them throughout the entire book. For instance, if your book requires a male and a female narrator, the male narrator will voice all male characters, and the female narrator will voice all female characters. If your book requires two actors of the same gender, the performers will work together to decide who will give voice to which additional characters. You may also make requests based on their auditions!

Multicast Narration: The same as above, only with 3 or more actors, secondary and tertiary characters split between them.

Producer Assignment

Peitho Press Audio Productions will assign you a talented, knowledgeable producer who will work with you throughout the entire production process and be available to answer your questions. This producer will be the point-person between you (the author), our narrators, and our post-production team.

Casting (a.k.a. Narrator Selection)

We offer three options for choosing the best performers for your audiobook:

  1. Your Producer gathers custom audition samples for you to review

  2. You come to us with a list of performers you'd like to work with

  3. You trust our Production Team to make the right voice choice for your project

Once your cast is chosen, schedule coordination will begin for the team.

Production Process After Casting

Your cast preps the manuscript, then begins recording their performance. If this is a duet or multicast performance, the prep goes through two layers: First round preparation by one of Peitho Press Audio Productions’ professional preppers, and a second round by the actors themselves.

You will receive a 15-minute sample of each actor's performance for your approval before they continue. This 15-minute checkpoint is your one and only chance to offer additional direction to the actors. Once this is approved, they will complete the audiobook.

Once the initial recording is completed, it’s submitted to Peitho Press Audio Productions for proofing. This is where a human being will listen to the audio, follow along with the actor's performance, and mark any erroneous reads. These errors are noted for the actor who corrects them by re-recording any mistakes.

After all read errors have been corrected, the audio is transferred to one of our professional audio engineers, who will begin the audio editing and mastering process. They will ensure the audio meets professional distribution specifications, including making the audio from several narrators sound as if they performed in the same room together.

If you choose duet-style or multicast narration, the order of the last two steps changes slightly, as one of our engineers needs to delicately weave the audio from several performers together so it's ready for proofing. Other than that, the process remains the same.

Once engineering is completed, you will receive your final audio files, ready for upload to your distributor of choice!

This entire process takes 6-8 weeks from the start of the performer(s) recording.
